An
introduction must have 2 parts:
General
statement
The
goal of your introduction is not only to introduce the main idea, but also to
grab the reader's attention. Wake him or her up and generate some interest
about the topic. There are several ways to write the general statement:
a. General-to-specific
b. Definition/explanation
c. Set
the scene
d. Problem-solution
2. Thesis
statement
The
statement that has the sub-topics of the whole essay and it is normally the
last sentence of the introduction.
a. State
the particular topic of the whole essay
b. Lists
sub-topics (topic sentences) of the essay
c. Indicates
the organization of the essay (meaning, which sub-topic will be discussed
first, second and so on)
The
thesis statement should mention what the sub-topics are and there is NO NEED to
explain each sub-topic because the sub-topics will be discussed in detail in
the body
paragraph.
Example:
1. The
benefit of living in rural area

breath freely in a fresh air. (More specific statement) The homes of the rural
area are located very close to one another. The relationship between the
villagers more closely and this make the place is fairly boiling with humanity.
Beside the population of the rural area fewer compared to the population of the
city. (Thesis statement) Living in rural area can provide us with some benefits
which are peace and healthy environment, low quality of life and fewer
competitors in working sector.
2. Disadvantage
of living in rural area

rural area is an area located far from urban areas. (More specific statement)
