CENSORSHIP ON INTERNET – IS IT NECESSARY

Internet censorship is a method that be used by government or private organization to control the information and idea what can be accessed, published and view by society. (Definition) Most developed countries such us United States, Japan and other are less strict censorship on internet because they felt that would restrict the freedom of the individual. Is it necessary for a country to have censorship on internet? We are still debating the necessary of censorship on internet. Even though some people think that censorship on internet is not necessary, I strongly believe that censorship on internet is necessary because internet censorship can prevent the children from negative information in addition can maintain safety and protect the country. However, it is undeniable that internet censorship can make people missing useful information. (THESIS STATEMENT)

Internet Censorship can prevent children from negative information. (Topic sentence) This is because most parents do not have enough time to control their children because of work constraints. Because the world increasingly challenged, children may be exposed to a source, video or website that danger and damage to the brain and their behavior. (Reason) For example, games and video on the Internet that may contain elements of pornography or violence. (Example) Internet Censorship can help parents to control children from misusing internet progress and reduce violence and social problems such as bullying, sex, rape and other amongst children. This will protect children from the negative things because they cannot think what is good and bad. (PRO ARGUMENT 1).

Another reason why internet censorship necessary because to maintain safety and protect the country (topic sentence). This is because, internet censorship can block certain countries or individuals from encroaching sites owned by the government and steal vital information about the country. (Reason) It can protect any secrets about the defences from leak because the greatness of a country's defence’s strategy is not only measured by high-tech weaponry but also the systems that protect any secrets about the defences of the country. Internet censorship can also block the false information from spread that be used to discredit the government. All information or news in the internet which aim to break the unity may be restricted by the government to maintain the welfare state. A recent studies by Selina Yang in her study about Research paper: Impact of Internet cencorship in North Korea, Cuba, and China state that Chinese government used the “great firewall” censorship operation to protect the national security. (Authority) Therefore, the Internet censorship necessary to protect the country from disintegration, destruction of the country due to the advancement of the Internet has no boundary. (PRO ARGUMENT 2)

Some people think that internet censorship can make people missing useful information. (Topic sentence) These people have that opinion because some important information blocked by the government or private organizations. (Reason) Such information may be considered negative for the government but it is important for other parties such as researchers and university students to do research on matters related to such information. (COUNTER ARGUMENT) However, I strongly disagree with all these views. I think apart from obtaining information through the internet, we can get information through books, newspapers, journals and magazines. Many researchers and university students not only depend on the internet to get information but to use books and journals as the main reference. (Example) (REFUTATION)

In conclusion, censorship on internet is necessary because it can prevent the children from negative information and it also can maintain safety and protect the country. Therefore, we should not have a negative perception to internet censorship because it has a lot of advantages compared disadvantages to the society. The important thing users need know how to use and select useful information from internet for the benefit of themselves. (Suggestions) Having presented my arguments, I once again totally agree that censorship on internet is necessary.
