THE INTRODUCTION PARAGRAPH

An introduction must have 2 parts:

General statement
The goal of your introduction is not only to introduce the main idea, but also to grab the reader's attention. Wake him or her up and generate some interest about the topic. There are several ways to write the general statement:
a.       General-to-specific
b.      Definition/explanation
c.       Set the scene
d.      Problem-solution
2.      Thesis statement
The statement that has the sub-topics of the whole essay and it is normally the last sentence of the introduction.
a.       State the particular topic of the whole essay
b.      Lists sub-topics (topic sentences) of the essay
c.    Indicates the organization of the essay (meaning, which sub-topic will be discussed first, second and so on)

The thesis statement should mention what the sub-topics are and there is NO NEED to
explain each sub-topic because the sub-topics will be discussed in detail in the body
paragraph.
Example:

1.      The benefit of living in rural area
